Totally Doomed is the hideous lovechild of Kelii and Giz from Manchester-based punk rock band Obsessive Compulsive…. The flagship shop opened in the legendary alternative emporium AFFLECKS on Church street in Manchester’s hip Northern Quarter on February 13th 2012. “We just wanted to invent a shop which represented our personal sense of DIY/alt/punk style, even the alternative scene, in both music and fashion, has become homogenised over recent years, with an ever more blurred line between mainstream and subcultures. We remember how we felt wandering around Afflecks in our teens, finding amazing items of clothing we hadn’t seen anywhere else, feeling part of an underground, leftfield culture, we held onto that ideal and decided to contact some of our uber talented friends to get involved in making our dream a reality.”
As well as stocking tees by the artistic genius CARP, Giz’s hand-customised rock n roll denim jackets and some punk rock classics that you can’t seem to find anywhere else these days like hand made mohair jumpers, the guys decided that ‘Totally Doomed’ (the name, incidentally, taken from a quote from Gregg Araki’s highly stylised weird slacker movie ‘Nowhere’) screamed out to become a brand in its own right. “We went straight to our good friend Dave Kerr to create our first t-shirt design, and he more than surpassed our expectations, or even our hopes, we think it screams rock n roll cool, and really encapsulates the zeitgeist we’re trying to portray. We are going to continue working with Dave and other artists in expanding the brand. 3rd Rail completed the process with their brilliant customer service, we knew we wanted to use ethically sourced, vintage feel garments, and Ian and co worked really hard to get the job done for us, to a tight deadline. We’re really fucking excited about this as a creative outlet.” Watch this space.
