It’s week 3 of 3RXPG here at 3rd Rail HQ and after weeks of planning it feels like everything is finally starting to come together. Week 3 means pattern cutting and t-shirt assembly which is essentially a first look at the finished garment.
It’s week two of our collaborative project with The Pattern Guild which means printing time. The fabric we’ve decided to go for is a lightweight, white jersey – perfect for warmer months which coincides with our late summer/early autumn release date.
Here at 3rd Rail HQ we’re really excited to announce the start of what will become a series of collaborative projects designed to utilise some of our most exciting and innovative in house printing and customisation techniques. The final package produced in a limited edition will include a bespoke screen printed t-shirt and fine art print all packaged in style in a screen printed box. As well as being available to purchase via our 3rd Rail Presents online store we will also be offering plenty of chances to win one of these exclusive sets. To be in with a chance of winning make sure you’re following us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook where we will also be posting regular progress updates and sneak peeks of how we’re getting on.
People really love the soft, integrated finish you get with discharge inks. By bleaching the garment’s dye out the ink’s water based pigments show up nice and bright without having to be layered like with a heavy plastisol print (more on this in our Ink Types section).
We recently helped out Clarks Originals at their SS15 launch, by putting together a live screen printing event. We we’re asked to print two different designs by Northern Illustrator Peter O’Toole. (more…)
Tell us a bit about your brand, the history and the ethos behind the Roughens.
Roughens is a new start up clothing brand that’s based in the South of the UK. We’ve got our debut collection LA x London dropping soon.
The ethos was nailed before most other elements; bold yet minimal pieces with a strong respect for garment quality and aesthetics. (more…)
Having a successful T-shirt brand is the promised land that many of our customers aspire to, and there’s a huge number of factors to take into consideration when planning and developing the business plan for your very own label.
Getting word out to your potential consumers is a mammoth task in itself, but I’m not going to touch upon this aspect of the challenge here because that’s not really our field. What we at 3rd Rail do have an in-depth knowledge of however is the production side of this particular juggling act. We’ve printed for a huge number of fledgling brands over the years – and it’s always interesting to see the ones who make a real success of it, and the ones that don’t. What is it that makes some clothing labels take-off and fly and some nose-dive into the abyss? Keep reading and we hope to be able to offer up some clues to help you spread your wings and sail into blue yonder…. (more…)
Our tech overlords (Apple, Samsung et al) are churning out millions of identical screen clad devices all the time for our pleasure, and despite the odd grubby finger-print, smart phones, lap tops and tablets, all offer fantastically clear viewing apparatus for you to create your treasured designs. Now with the introduction of cloud computing, where it’s possible to experience the same environment from screen to screen, you would be forgiven for thinking that the colours would stay consistent as you move from device to device, wouldn’t you…? Well, take it from us (because we’ve learnt the expensive way) that this isn’t the case. (more…)
